第三步：用锤子和锻火打制毛坯，打制为可组装的零件，从而获得优良的工具（武器）

A true **Blacksmith** learns to understand the metals of the world. An ancient smelter from a far gone civilization sits in the town, and it takes an adept mind to understand its secrets. As a blacksmith, you must turn ores to ingots, and ingots to weapons and tools in order for the town to survive. Trust in the weight of your hammer, and forge metals of all kinds to craft better and better armaments. The town will depend on you and your expertise, each new weapon needs to be forged differently, and will behave uniquely.

## Smelting

Smelting is done at the [Smelter](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter) in [Town](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Town), a machine found at the [Smithy](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter) where [Ores](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Ore), [Ingots](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Ingot) and [Fuel](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Fuel) can be used to make [Weapon Heads](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Heads).

It is the first step to making [Weapons](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon) and [Tools](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Tool).

[Metals](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Metal) of all kinds are made here for crafting purposes. This includes the base [Metals](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Metal) as well as [Alloys](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Alloy).

#### Basics

[Ores](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Ore) and [Ingots](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Ingot) can be placed through the hatch on the left side of the [Smelter](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter). Once inside the hatch, closing it will slot the resources into the [Smelter](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter).

* The right side of the hatch will display the resources currently in use.
* A lever to the left side of the hatch can be pulled to dispense the resources for retrieval.
* It takes time before the resources are converted, the duration is indicated by the growing white flame sprite below the resources display.

[Fuel](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Fuel) can be placed inside the [Smelter](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter) through the grate at its front.

* The right side of the grate also displays the current amount stored.
* There is currently no method of extracting [Fuel](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Fuel) from the Smelter.
* The rate of fuel consumption can be observed by a growing white flame sprite below the fuel display.

The [Smelter](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter) outputs on the right side.

* [Ingots](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Ingot) will stack inside of a display to the left of the output tray, whilst [Weapon Heads](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Heads) will simply be found in the tray itself.

#### Using Moulds with the Smelter

[Moulds](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Blacksmith_Mould) can be used on the [Smelter](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter) to produce [Weapon Heads](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) and [Tools](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Tool).

* [Moulds](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Blacksmith_Mould) are placed in a frame between the resource hatch, and the fuel grate of the [Smelter](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Smelter).
* Having a [Mould](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Blacksmith_Mould) inside of the frame, will prioritize [Ingot](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Ingot) consumption to make the [Item](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Item) listed on the [Mould](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Blacksmith_Mould).
 * [Moulds](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Blacksmith_Mould) **do not** need to remain inside of the frame once the item is starting to be smelted.
 * Leaving a [Mould](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Blacksmith_Mould) inside of the frame, will continuously create the item until the minimum required resources are spent.

## Forging

Forging is the process a **Blacksmith** will go through to refine a [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Heads) into a completed [Weapon](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon).

It is performed outside of the [Smithy](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy), at the [Anvil](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Anvil) and [Forge](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Forge).

#### Heating Weapons

Before being able to use the [Anvil](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Anvil), [Weapon Heads](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) need to be heated on the [Forge](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Forge).

This only applies to sharp [Weapon Heads](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) with an edge, but not blunt instruments like hammers and pickaxes.

[Weapon Heads](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) can be seen **glowing orange** as they heat up. Different [Metals](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Metal) heat up and cool at different rates.

* Embers will emit from various points on the [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) as it reaches optimum forging temperature.

#### Hammering Into Shape

A **heated** [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) can be placed over the [Anvil](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Smithy#Anvil), and hammered into shape.

The speed of forging is based on the effectiveness of the hammer strikes, the toughness of the [Metal](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Metal) and the Temperature of the [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head).

* The size of the sparks on impact, indicates the effectiveness of the impact on the [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head). Small sparks can indicate a weak swing, an ineffective [Tool](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Tool), or the [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) could be too cold.

Progress of forging can be observed through the shape of the [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head).

* It can be observed to **flatten** and **expand** in areas that have been forged. The entirety of the [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) **must** be forged before it is completed.

#### Completion

A [Weapon Head](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon#Head) will be **complete**, when **white circles** appear on impact, as opposed to sparks. Once complete, they can be [Crafted](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Crafting) with other parts to make a usable [Weapon](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Weapon).

## Skills

When performing the process of **hammering**, Blacksmithing experience will be gained in the background. The amount of experience gained corresponds to the amount of hits it takes to perform a task.

Once enough experience has been gained, you will be surrounded in the yellow light that means you have levelled up, and will be free to gain a new **Smithing** skill at the [Blacksmith Shrine](https://townshiptale.fandom.com/wiki/Blacksmith_Shrine).
